Zieta ‘Chippensteel’ Chair – Blue Lacquered

The ‘Chippensteel’ chair is a design by Oskar Zieta, known for his experimental approach to metalwork and his use of the FiDU technique (Freie Innen Druck Umformung). This method involves inflating welded sheets of metal under high pressure to create lightweight yet structurally robust forms.

This particular piece is finished in a rare blue lacquer, a colour that softens the industrial edge while enhancing its sculptural qualities. The glossy, almost fluid surface creates shifting reflections depending on light and angle, giving the chair a dynamic visual presence.

The design draws inspiration from 18th-century furniture silhouettes, reinterpreted as a contemporary sculptural object. Although first introduced around 2010, each chair is inherently unique due to the organic deformations that occur during the forming process.
